Autumn Bread Kugel

Ingredients:

2 tbs margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups water
2 tbs light corn syrup
1 cinnamon stick
3 cloves
2 cubed whole wheat rolls, cubed,toasted
2 apples, peeled sliced
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup peanuts
1/4 cup sliced almonds


Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350. Grease 1 quart shallow baking dish with margarine. In med saucepan combine sugar, water, syrup, cinnamon & cloves. Bring to boil & reduce heat & simmer for about 10 min, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly. In baking pan arrange ingredients in layers. First the toasted bread,apples, raisins, peanuts almonds. Remove & discard the cloves & the cinnamon stick. Slowly pour syrup over bread & fruit mixture to moisten the bread well. Reserve some of syrup to use at serving. Cover & bake for 20 to 25 min or until apples are tender. Uncover & bake for another 10-15 min. Serve with syrup & whipped cream if desired. makes 6 servings
