Choc Chip Date Cake

Ingredients:

1 cup chopped dates
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup margarine or butter
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 heaping tsp cocoa
Topping:
6 oz choc chips (1cup)
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)


Instructions:

Grease & flour a 9x13 baking pan. Heat oven to 350. Sprinkle baking soda on chopped dates and add boiling water. Let stand, 1/2 hr. Drain. In mixer, cream margarine, sugar & eggs, beat well. Mix dry ingredients together and add in batches to margarine mix, alternating with drained dates. Pour batter into pan and sprinkle with topping. Bake for about 40 min. Not Tried
